  • Advocacy Teacher Training for the
    Attorney General’s Chambers, Brunei Darussalam

  • 21 to 23 August 2015 marked another chapter in the history of IATC as it conducted its inaugural Advocacy Teacher Training Programme in the Sultanate of Brunei Darussalam. The programme was organized through the tireless effort of the Attorney General’s Chambers in Brunei Darussalam.
  • Nine prosecutors from the Attorney General’s Chambers were handpicked to attend this Teacher Training programme. These trainees had prosecutorial experience ranging from 7 to 20 years. There were several juniors who had were also selected from the Attorney General’s Chambers to be the advocates.
  • The Teacher Training course was conducted by IATC’s teaching faculty consisting of Anesta Weekes, Q.C. (E&W), David Leung S.C. (Hong Kong), Giles Surman (Hong Kong), Cheow Wee (Malaysia), Amrit pal Singh (Malaysia) and Ravi Nekoo (Malaysia).
  • On the first day, the trainees slowly but steadfastly applied the teaching method. By the second day, they showed greater confidence and were able to use the Method effectively. By the end of the session the trainees were convinced that the Method is an effective advocacytool that will assist in the advancement of advocacy standards in the Attorney General’s Chambers.
  • The Attorney General, the Right Honourable Datin Seri Paduka Hajah Hayati binti Pehin Orang Kaya Shahbandar Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Salleh and the Solicitor General, Madam Naimah binti Mohd Ali both met with the IATC trainers and the trainees and gave their unstinting support to this advocacy programme. At the end of the two day programme, the IATC on its part gave its assurance of its continued assistance, as and when, is required.
